The Tolleson Union High School District (TUHSD) held its first Wellness Fair this year on April 24, 2013. The event was attended by several hundred people. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of wellness for staff, students and community members. The event had many participants that helped provide nutritional and healthy living instruction to participants. The TUHSD food service provided healthy snacks for attendees to sample as well as providing the recipes.
The Mobile On-site Mammography (MOM) team performed screenings for breast cancer at the event. There was also screening for diabetes and other conditions.
Among the health and insurance providers present and providing assistance were: Delta Dental; TDA; ING; The Kidney Foundation; United Healthcare; VSP; Assurant; and the Valley Schools Employee Benefits Trust (VSEBT).
Door prizes were donated by VSEBT “preferred providers” – VSP, United Healthcare, Assurant, and Delta Dental.
Congratulations to TUHSD on this first annual event to help improve health and wellness in their community!
More businesses should do this annually
